History is Served (Curbside!) • Exploring the Arkansas Delta: Chinese Communities

This event is no longer on sale.

Thursday October 22

4:00 PM  –  9:00 PM

2020 History is Served explores cultures, communities, and cuisine of the Arkansas Delta. The third in our series takes a look at the Chinese communities that settled in the Arkansas Delta in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Learn what drew people from China and Chinese Americans to Arkansas and how those who stayed channeled their entrepreneurial spirits into the grocery business.

Chef C.C. Key, formerly of Southern Gourmasian, will create a modern meal inspired by this community, available as curbside pick up, and the museum will host a Zoom program featuring foodways researcher Kevin Kim who spent time traveling the Delta and documenting the stories of Chinese families for the Southern Foodways Alliance.

Thank you to our sponsors, Arkansas Rice and Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.
